Year 9 take on the Physics Big Quiz
24 January 2020
On Tuesday 21 January, twelve Year 9 EHS girls took part in the annual Physics Big Quiz held at the University of Birmingham.
After a quick campus tour, the quiz began with a fun word search: our three teams had got off to a good start! This was quickly followed by three rounds of challenging multiple choice questions on electricity and waves, forces and motion, and famous physicists. We then enjoyed a lecture on The Physics of Hot and Cold, which was to prove useful for the round of questions on energy and temperature in the afternoon!
After a 30-minute lunch break, 10 minutes of which were spent in the queue at the university campus’s branch of Starbucks (!), we participated in more rounds of questions, including one on this year’s specialist topic of Medical Physics. When all the questions had been asked, and all the points counted, the prize-giving ceremony began.
Unfortunately, our girls were not awarded a prize this year, but it was a great day for both staff and students, and we look forward to attending more events at the university in future.
