Creativity on World Book Day

Preparatory

04 March 2022

The excitement of World Book Day has been building since the first day of the new Half Term as girls returned to school with their entries for the Book in a Box project. They had been set this challenge over the holiday and their entries did not disappoint. The challenge was to create a scene from the book or the whole book in a box and we will report further next week as the girls continue to submit excellent entries.

On Wednesday, we welcomed author Linda Mason to assembly. Linda talked to the girls about her first book, Dolly Daydreams’ Garden Friends. The story is based on the daydreams that Linda had when she was a child, spending time in her Grandfather’s magical garden. She imagined conversations she would have with the butterflies and creatures who shared the garden with her. In the book Dolly’s animal friends can talk to her and they have adventures together.  The girls enjoyed finding out about the animal characters. We are grateful to Linda for sharing her insight into the magical world of story writing and wish her well with her second book which will be published later in the year.  The girls are really keen to get started on writing their own books now!

The 25th World Book Day took place on Thursday 3 March and girls and staff from Nursery to Year 6 came to school dressed as favourite book characters for a final celebration. The day started in Prep with an assembly giving information about the joy and the importance of reading and the history of the special day celebrated worldwide. We hope that everyone continues to enjoy the wealth of books we have available in school and recognises that reading can help with both learning and relaxation.

Do you have a good book on the go?
