Life Lessons In Self Defence, E-safety, Yoga and First Aid
28 May 2021
The assessments may be over but that doesn’t mean things have slowed down at all at EHS. On Thursday and Friday this week, years 7-10 have been getting to grips with self-defence, first aid and finding their zen through yoga.
Designed to provide a taster and equip the girls with a number of key life skills, the two day programme is part of our PSHEE (Personal Social Health and Economic Education) programme. At EHS every student in Years 7 - 11 has one period of PSHEE and Citizenship each week to help them develop socially and personally as well as acquire skills, knowledge and confidence as they grow. Our two-day programme has been created to consolidate what girls have already learnt, as well as introduce some additional new skills and experiences in a safe and familiar environment.
Over two days, a carousel of activities has allowed different classes and year groups to get involved in a series of active, fun and informative workshops. From learning how to carry out CPR and put someone into the recovery position in first aid, to understanding the basics of defending yourself physically when threatened, the girls had fun whilst developing some essential new life skills.
Younger girls attended sessions about puberty and personal hygiene and all students explored the pros and cons of social media and online safety. Relaxation came in the form of downward dogs in the outdoor yoga sessions, whilst ‘mind drama’ workshops focussed on using imaginary scenarios to practice life skills and make sense of the world beyond school.
