Last week Year 6 girls enjoyed 3 days working off curriculum on ‘The French Experience.’  This week their enrichment activities began.  These included an introduction to Mandarin, 3D modelling, Bollywood dancing and first aid.  They also began their pottery unit in Art lessons and animation in ICT.

Other year groups have been creative too and it is always a pleasure to watch the masterpieces taking shape and then to see the finished creations.  In Year 2, girls have been creating pieces of modern art in the style of the artist Kandinsky.  Year 3 have been developing their sewing skills and have produced some useful and attractive iPad cases.  In Year 5, the girls have been extending their portraiture project further by making some 3D faces in clay.

This week Year 5 girls would have been away on their residential trip to Cranedale in North Yorkshire.  As this is not possible at present, the Year 5 teachers have worked hard to recreate some of the activities they would have experienced.  You can read more about this off-curriculum week in the separate story.

Our co-curricular activities continue to be well supported.  This week Year 3 were able to enjoy the introduction of ICT and Classics lunchtime clubs.  Our sports clubs have continued to be supported enthusiastically too with over 100 girls attending the cricket and tennis sessions after school, nearly 60 girls running cross country each week and the members of swimming squad training keenly before and after school.

Class 3K entertained us in Thursday morning’s assembly when they shared their researched knowledge of hedgehogs.  They gave a lively and enjoyable presentation and also shared good advice on how to help the dwindling hedgehog population.  They had chosen this theme as it is National Hedgehog Awareness week and they certainly gave us much food for thought.  Well done 3K!

During Friday’s Celebration assembly we announced the weekly Well Done certificates for Years 1 and 2 and there was an award for further independent work on the galaxy for Aniya in Year 6.  We also shared the results of the Year 6 competitions held during their French Experience Week.

French Quiz - Bhavna, Jessica, Aniya and Hajrah.

Best French Costumes - Anaya (Frenchman with moustache), Aurelia (Coco Chanel) and Sophie  (Mime artist).

Best Chanel Outfit Design - Isabella

Lip-Sync Champions - Layla, Keira and Esha.

Best Scrapbooks - Hannah, Marlah, Ellie, Esme and Bhavna.

The words at the end of one Scrapbook summed up an amazing week of activities -

“French Week. This was the most fun I’ve had in ages and an experience I’m going to leave EHS with. I have so many memories now.”

We hope that easing of some restrictions will allow other events to take place and the girls to create other memories.
