We have been able to celebrate a great many achievements throughout the week in addition to meeting parents of our Key Stage 2 girls in Years 3 - 6.
We ended last week with the finals of our Prep Musician of the Year competition. After selecting from 170 entrants in the preliminary rounds we were able to enjoy 22 performances from the finalists. It was an extremely difficult decision for Fiona McCanlis, our adjudicator who announced our Prep Musician of the Year as Jessica in Year 3. We look forward to hearing more from all of our musicians during the rest of the year.
This week we were really pleased to welcome our Year 5 and 6 Squads back from their weekend of netball at Condover Hall. They had clearly had a very active weekend and developed their skills, which you can read more about in the separate article. We were also delighted to hear that the Year 5 teams came second and third in the tournament against teams from all over the country.
The expert netball coaching and tournament experience of the weekend clearly paid off as our Year 6 Teams played extremely well in their netball matches against Highclare School on Tuesday evening. EHS A Team won 9 – 1 and our EHS B Team won 18 – 0. Our players of the match were voted as Mimi Dowsett and Freya Boocock. Well done to all of our players.
Wednesday brought the exciting news that we have qualified for the English Schools Swimming Association finals after taking part in the regional heats in both freestyle and
medley relays. The girls took part in the qualifiers in Warwick and returned delighted with a trip to the finals at Pond’s Forge, Sheffield ahead in June.
In our assemblies this week we have marked Commonwealth Day finding more about the history of the organisation, the common goals and the important part that young people can
play in ‘Delivering a Common Future.’ We talked about the forthcoming Commonwealth Games that we are going to begin counting down to after the Easter break.
Years 5 and 6 joined the Senior School Assembly on Wednesday to hear the speeches from the prospective Head Girls. They were impressed with the candidates and very keen to cast their votes. We also look forward to hearing the results.
In our Celebration Assembly on Friday we presented the Year 1 and 2 Well Done certificates and the medals to the Year 5 and 6 netballers following their weekend tournaments. There were also individual congratulations to Ava Eagles for her success in the George Finney Gym Championships and for Khaiya Kara for her gaining her Level 6 Gym badge.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Reception and 1B parents to school for their class assemblies and to another busy week.
