On Your Marks, Get Set, Bake!

Senior School

28 June 2024

Last week, Senior School enjoyed the House Bake Off! The chance for pupils to showcase their culinary creativity - and the first big organisational challenge for the newly-appointed House Captains. The F&N room has been buzzing every lunchtime with the finest bakers from each year group competing for the prize. This year, the competition has been getting us ready for summer with a Parisian Olympic theme.

On Monday, Faye and George in Year 7 gave St. Patrick an early lead. Their shortbread medal biscuits decorated with Olympic rings and edible ribbons were fit for a champion!

Tuesday saw Year 10 giving us their Showstoppers. Erica and Isobel were victorious for St Francis. Their apple caramel crumble pie long jump got the gold!
The baton was then passed to Year 9 on Wednesday and Summer’s creative sprinter’s sponge put St Andrew at the top of the podium.
Millie and Mabel came in first from Year 8 on Thursday. Their chocolate cupcakes torches with melted candy flames were fit for an Olympic opening ceremony.

On Friday, the Sixth Formers took over. St. George placed first with a triple chocolate cake baked by Flora and Melissa. On the day, Jorja, Zara and Izzy added the finishing touches of chocolate frosting, multi-coloured fondant and an olympic torch made out of rice crispy cake, covered with delicate gold leaf.
The grand finalé was the staff round with Mr Shutt’s strawberry Eiffel Trifle taking the win for St. Francis. It was a classic, complete with sponge Olympic Rings, just missing the sherry!

A huge thank you to all of our bakers, it was a fantastic week. And well done to the House Captains for organising their teams.

The final results are as follows:

5th Place: St David
4th Pace: St George
Joint Silver medal winners: St Patrick and St Andrew
The Gold medal goes to St Francis! Well done to all!
