Senior Musician of the Year
18 March 2022
This week the school staged the Senior Musician of the Year competition. A biennial event, the competition is an opportunity for our talented musicians to showcase their skill and poise. All students across Year 7 to 13 are commended for all of their hard work over the last eight weeks preparing and auditioning for this eagerly-anticipated occasion.
We were delighted to welcome Mr James Jones, our independent adjudicator, to Edgbaston High School. Mr Jones is one of the UK’s most celebrated choral conductors and it
was a great privilege to have him with us and giving such excellent feedback to the musicians. As well as announcing the winners of each category, Mr Jones offered an exciting
solo performance opportunity at Birmingham Town Hall to the winner, to take place in December.
After finalists had given their performances, we welcomed 2020 winner flautist Zoha, back to the stage to perform to the audience during the adjudicator’s deliberations.
The winners of the key stage prizes were Alice (Year 8), Beryl (Year 10) and Caitlin (Year 13) and the overall winner of the coveted title of Musician of the Year was Charis (Year 9). Congratulations go to all finalists who took part in the finalist’s concert of Musician of the Year 2022
