This Week in Westbourne
01 July 2022
As we approach the end of term there has been much excitement about our Sports Morning which took place on Wednesday. The girls were looking forward to the event as they had been practising hard in their PE lessons. They clearly all enjoyed it.
In addition to physical development skills the girls were engaged in many other activities too.
In Nursery they have continued to study the topic of Summer. They have been out and about in school looking for signs of summer which included tasting ice cream and voting for their favourite flavours. They have also painted the sun and added glitter to make the sun rays shine.
The letter sound being studied in Kindergarten this week was x. Girls practised forming the shape on paper and with their bodies. They also thought about x rays, matching animals with their skeleton shapes. The story ‘My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes’ gave the opportunity to look at rhyming words and to think about other countries. In Mathematics, the girls used addition and subtraction skills and the story of ‘Funnybones’ gave them opportunity to practise their number bonds to 10.
When they visited the Safari Park last week the girls in Reception had the opportunity to look at large animals. Back in class the girls have been finding out about caterpillars. They have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. They have been watching real caterpillars grow and they have now turned into chrysalises. They are all eager for the butterflies to emerge from their chrysalises this week.
They have made some egg box caterpillars. They have also been learning about symmetry in Mathematics and have painted butterflies. In the outdoor area they have made symmetrical butterflies using leaves, flowers and twigs.
