What's On In Westbourne

Westbourne

15 October 2021

What a busy week in Westbourne this week.

The featured colour for this week in Nursery has been purple. Girls had great fun making purple footprints and had just as much fun cleaning their boots afterwards! They also enjoyed some work on different textures, including slippery, rough, fuzzy and soft based on the ‘That’s not my Dinosaur’ book.

Other skills used included sorting coloured bugs into sets and ordering different length coloured rolls in size order.

The focus in Kindergarten this week has been the letter sound 'p'. Girls have worked hard on their letter formation and enjoyed many supporting activities. They have made use of the interactive white board, written about their pink and purple penguins and greatly enjoyed retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs! This has also been reflected in their Three Little Pig artwork.

Reception girls have been exploring the natural world around them and enjoyed a lovely walk, in the sunshine, to the Botanical Gardens.  They went to look for signs of autumn.  They spoke to the gardeners who were picking up piles of leaves and asked where they were going to put them.  The gardeners described how the leaves were put on the compost heap and eventually recycled back as food for the soil.

This followed exploring our own outdoor classroom for signs of the changing season. The girls were delighted by the variety of different natural items they found.

The Reception girls have also been working in pairs to make fruit carriers.  They discussed how they were going to decorate their carrier and what materials they were going to use to secure the handle.  One of the sounds learnt this week was the 'sh' sound and girls have made sheep, complete with wobbly eyes and a woolly coat!
