In The Discovery Den this week, the girls in Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception learnt all about being healthy by engaging in a variety of activities. They had to decide which foods are good for them when they played the games Greedy Gorilla and Tummy Ache. Greedy Gorilla liked to eat all the foods that we should only have as a treat! They sorted fruits and vegetables, deciding which fruits and vegetables they liked or disliked. They also enjoyed the exercise challenges. Some were able to do ten star jumps, others could hop on one leg and others counted how many jumps they could do in a minute. How many jumps can you do? One of their favourite tasks was to learn about personal hygiene by washing the dolls!
In Kindergarten, the topics for the week have been spring and Easter. They have thought about the change in season on their spring walk and have written about what they have
seen. Spring themed activities have included cutting out spring pictures and drawing bunny hops to practise pencil control.
They have also completed Easter activities ahead of the holiday, many of which have built on last week’s work on eggs. They have made Easter cards and Easter baskets and used
Mathematics skills to do some Easter addition and ordering items by their size. There was also great excitement to go on an Easter egg hunt in the outdoor classroom and they
have thought about the story of Easter and what we do to celebrate.
Reception girls have been making music in the mornings on arrival in the classroom! As part of their morning 'free play' activity, they chose to get the percussion instruments out. Girls sang their own songs to each other whilst using an instrument of their choice. In Numeracy lessons, girls have been introduced to the topic of Subtraction, first using practical items, such as crayons, to understand this new concept.
In continuing with the smooth transition from Reception to Year 1 in September, both year groups met up in Prep playground to have an Easter Egg hunt! They also used their recently acquired map reading skills to follow an egg trail around the playground. Girls had to find the 20 eggs hidden and record where they were on the map.
Learning has been inside and outside of the classroom this week.
