Senior School Carol Service at St George's Church
15 December 2016
Edgbaston High Senior School celebrated the end of another successful calendar year with their Carol Service at St George’s Church on Monday 12 December.
Pupils, staff, parents and members of council gathered in this setting to reflect on an excellent year and to celebrate the Christmas season with a traditional service of Lessons and Carols.
The Lessons were excellently read by pupil representatives from each of the year groups and finished with the reading ‘BC:AD’ by U A Fanthorpe, read by Bethany Lucas.
The combined Senior and Chamber choirs sung a range of repertoire and delighted the congregation with their sound and poise: the Senior Choir sang ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ and a jaunty version of the 14th century German carol ‘In dulci jubilo’. An opening verse sung in German added colour to the congregational hymn ‘Silent Night’. The Chamber Choir executed superbly Gardner’s ‘Tomorrow shall be my dancing day’ which had been given a twist with arrangement made by Music teacher Mr Gavin Bateman. Mr Bateman is also the School’s organist and retires at the end of this term; he will be sadly missed!
With not a seat spare, the service was truly a special occasion for the School community and a fantastic way to begin the festive holidays.
